Why home visit physiotherapy?

Home based physiotherapy is able to offer advantages that the traditional physiotherapy model located in a physical building/practice can not deliver and is becoming seen as possibly the best way to provide physiotherapy. Firstly, patients who use a home visits service such as ours do not have the need to make spare time in their already full days to travel to a physical practice - instead our physiotherapists will travel to you! Many of our patients work full time, lead extremely busy lives and they often tell us that this is of great benefit to them.

Being assessed and treated at home does not simply save time it also enables a comprehensive examination of how your home environment could be affecting your recovery and  allows our chartered physiotherapist to better determine the optimal treatment methods to use. We have found this to be a great advantage for our patients with a neurological problem (e.g. cerebral palsy), those who are recovering from a stroke and also patients who have recently been taken in to hospital and are now beginning the long journey of regaining mobility.

Some of our patients have great difficulty in walking and would find getting to a physical clinic difficult if not impossible. There are often many reasons for this difficulty in mobilising, for example they may have had a large operation such as a joint replacement or perhaps they have recently been unwell and spent some time in hospital causing them to lose strength and mobility. For these patients our home visit physiotherapy service is an ideal solution as it removes the need to visit a clinic and allows rehabilitation to take place at home.

What will it involve?

Having arranged an appointment, a chartered physiotherapist will visit you at home. Each physiotherapist carries a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag with equipment they may need.

The initial session starts with a verbal discussion which allows the physiotherapist to establish what your main problem is, talk over any aims you have and also to examine relevant past medical history. In our experience this is an essential part of the session as it gives you the opportunity to explain your needs and also allows the physiotherapist to have a clear understanding of how they can best help you.

Next is a physical examination which covers a series of components including - balance, muscle function and strength, co-ordination, alignment and gait. This is a key part of the overall assessment process as it is the section where your physiotherapist is trying to analyse any underlying physical dysfunctions, tie this together with the information you have provided and prepare a diagnosis and treatment plan.

The diagnosis will then be clearly explained to you along with the reasons that have led the physiotherapist to that diagnosis. In our opinion it is essential you have a good awareness of the nature of the problem and our physios  always explain things clearly.

The treatment component of the session will then take place - there are many options including spinal manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture and sports massage. Once the session has finished any exercises that you need to complete are detailed and any follow up sessions booked

I contacted ThreeSpires Physiotherapy last year after my husband returned home following a serious TBI. I was hoping to gain some independent physio assistance to enable my husband to move further towards a better recovery. Unable to walk or even balance properly they have attended weekly. Dave first came into our home and his service, manner and knowledge was excellent. He reassured both myself and husband and continued with therapy for a number of months. A very nice man and shows professionalism. He  has brought my husband further forward, both with his abilities and confidence. He is now walking with a zimmer frame more or less independently, his gait is more stable and he has more confidence. After Dave got Mark to a level he transferred our care to Kathryn, yet again a superb professional within the company. Very kind and understanding of my husband she provides encouragement along with a large amount of care and patience with him. He is coming on in leaps, even progressing to walk with two sticks. I have no hesitation in recommending the professional company in particular David and Kathryn. I feel we still have a long way to go but it's certainly coming forward and the staff know exactly what the client requires. Well done ThreeSpires. So appreciative of finding you and we look forward to the weekly sessions. Great company and wonderful staff. Don't hesitate people if you need a good physio team!!

" I contacted ThreeSpires Physiotherapy to help treat my bad back (suspected herniated disc). They promptly called me to arrange an initial consultation appointment. Following an assessment the physiotherapist recommended massage and acupuncture and carried out the treatment. There was a total of 5 visits in all until the pain had resolved. I would highly recommend ThreeSpires Physiotherapy. The physiotherapist was polite, respectful, knowledgeable and skilful. Appointments were arranged to suit my schedule and the physiotherapist was always prompt and kept me informed. If the need ever arises I will call ThreeSpires Physiotherapy for assessment and treatment."

Carolyn Colclough, Tamworth

"My husband mark has quite a physical job and being an ex miner has also had many a bump involving his back over the years unfortunately it all came to a head before Xmas last year, he went to the doctors as he was in so much pain and discomfort and was sent for an immediate x-ray. He was told to rest up for a week and they would send him for physiotherapy. That was all that happened no appointment ever came through. I don't want to berate the NHS but for someone who never normally goes to the doctors it was quite dis- heartening ,so I had a look on line for a local physio and came across ThreeSpires Physiotherapy they were very helpful and even came out at a weekend. They gave Mark some treatment and exercises to do and today Mark is feeling great and relieved that someone took his back problems seriously even explaining why he had the problem in the first place. We want to thank them very much for their help and are very pleased to recommend the clinic to anyone who asks. Thank you Three Spires Physiotherapy"

"Maria has been visiting my mom in her care home for 6 months. She is patient and makes the sessions fun which mom enjoys. I get regular updates on progress and also suggestions as to how I can help her in-between. We agree regularly the frequency of her visits to ensure Mom continues to progress and without Maria's help I genuinely don't think mom would be walking. Thank you!"

Allison Hollis, Sutton Coldfield

"I have had both hips replaced, and with help from you and Liz, I was getting on quite well, if slowly. Then I got shingles which really knocked me back and I was quite despondent,  but Liz has been very positive and encouraging. I enjoy her visits to my home, she is so friendly and cheerful, and I  feel that at last I am making progress. I couldn’t have done it without her help. I have recommended your services to some of my friends."

Margaret Brothwell, Lichfield

I received first class treatment from ThreeSpires Physiotherapy. The exercises I was given to do were tailored to my needs and bcame progressively more developed each session. The treatement only continued for as long as required, it was very professional, in the privacy of my own home and very reasonably priced. I thoroughly recommend ThreeSpires Physiotherapy to all my family and friends. I am now back at the gym feeling strong and fit.
