Why home visit physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy in the home delivers a range of advantages that a traditional physiotherapy practice residing in a physical premises will not be able to offer and is now coming to be accepted as possibly the best way of providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation. To start with, as one of our patients you will not have to find extra time in your already busy diary to journey to a clinic - instead our physiotherapy service comes to you! Many patients, who are working full time and with limited spare capacity find this to be one of the most important benefits.
Being assessed at home by a physiotherapist will allow a complete review of how your home set up may affect you and what will be the best treatment methods and rehabilitation plan to maximise your recovery. Experience has shown this to be of great benefit to our patients with a neurological problem such as Multiple Sclerosis, that are recovering after a stroke or those who have just been in to hospital and are now commencing the long process of recovery.
A lot of the people we see for physiotherapy at home are currently experiencing difficulty with walking. This is often down to an operation e.g. a hip replacement or possibly they have recently been ill and have spent a period in hospital thus causing them to lose strength. For these patients, simply leaving the house to access physiotherapy at a clinic is very difficult and home visit physiotherapy offers an ideal solution.
What will it involve?
One of our chartered physiotherapists will visit you at home, once you have set up an appointment. Each of our physiotherapists is equipped with a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag with equipment they may need.
The initial session starts with a discussion to review the problem, examine any goals you have and to look at past medical history. This is an essential part of the appointment as it gives you the chance to explain your needs and also gives the physiotherapist the opportunity to have a clear understanding of what you want from the sessions.
The physical assessment then analyses a range of components including - strength, balance, muscle function, co-ordination, postural alignment and gait. Here the physiotherapist is attempting to determine any dysfunctions and prepare a diagnosis and treatment plan that will best meet your needs.
Diagnosis and treatment options available are discussed, at ThreeSpiresPhysiotherapy we believe that it is essential that you understand the problem and we will always try to explain matters in a clear and concise manner.
Treatment will then begin - there are multiple options including spinal manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture and sports massage. Once the session has finished any exercises that you need to complete are detailed and any follow up sessions booked
