Why home visit physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy in the home environment delivers many benefits that physiotherapy practices based in physical clinic premises simply can not deliver. Firstly, you as our patient do not need to find extra time to travel to a clinic - instead one of our physiotherapists will come to you - for many of our patients, who work full time and lead extremely busy lives this is the most important benefit,.
Home based physiotherapy assessment and treatment allows us to comprehensively review the way in which your environment affects you, the nature of your condition and how you can best be rehabilitated. In our experience, this is of enormous benefit to anyone who has a neurological condition such as cerebral palsy, is recovering from the effects of a stroke or has recently been admitted to hospital and is starting the arduous process of recovery.
Many of the patients we see are having great difficulty in walking. This could be due to a major operation such as a knee replacement or they may have been taken ill and spent an extended period in hospital causing a loss of strength and mobility. As a consequence, leaving the house is very hard if not impossible and home visit physiotherapy offers an ideal solution.
What will it involve?
After contacting us and arranging an initial appointment, a physiotherapist will visit you at home. Each physiotherapist carries a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag with equipment they may need.
The initial session starts with a talk between you and your physiotherapist to discuss your problem, find out about any goals you have and also to go over any relevant past medical history. This is a key part of the session as it allows you to communicate what you want from the session and your physio to understand your needs in detail.
Next, there is a physical examination, this involves looking at a range of factors including - strength, balance, postural alignment and gait. During this part the physiotherapist will be trying to detect any underlying dysfunction and formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your physiotherapist will then discuss the diagnosis and any treatment options available, at ThreeSpiresPhysiotherapy we believe that it is important you understand the problem and our physiotherapists always attempt to explain things clearly.
Treatment then commences - we have many options including spinal manipulation, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, acupuncture and sports massage. Once the session has finished any exercises that you need to complete are detailed and any follow up sessions booked
